The Alcàsser Murders

In November 1992, three teenage girls, Míriam García, Antonia "Toñi" Gómez, and Desirée Hernández, disappeared while hitchhiking in Alcàsser, near Valencia, Spain. Their bodies were discovered months later in January 1993.

Investigation

The case became one of the most closely followed in Spanish history, drawing intense media coverage and public pressure on investigators throughout the search.

Trial

Miguel Ricart was convicted in 1997 and sentenced to more than 100 years, limited under Spanish law at the time to a maximum of 30 years actually served. His alleged accomplice, Antonio Anglés, fled the country before arrest and was never located; he is widely believed to have died shortly after fleeing, though this has never been confirmed.

Current status

Ricart was released from prison in 2013 after serving the maximum allowable term. Anglés remains formally a fugitive.
