Swedish journalist Kim Wall boarded inventor Peter Madsen's privately built submarine near Copenhagen for an interview. She did not return. Madsen was rescued after the submarine sank and initially gave changing explanations for her absence.
Investigation
Search teams recovered Wall's remains from Køge Bay. Forensic evidence, digital material, and Madsen's inconsistent accounts formed the prosecution case. Investigators concluded that he had killed Wall aboard the submarine and attempted to conceal the crime.
Legal status and legacy
A Danish court convicted Madsen of murder, sexual assault, and improper handling of a body in 2018. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, making the case legally solved.
