The Tepláreň Terrorist Attack and Closed Investigation
Two people were murdered and one seriously injured in a far-right attack targeting an LGBTIQ+ venue. Prosecution ended because the identified offender died.
Read the sourced case file →This evidence-led archive covers the Hurbanovo family shooting and failed hate-motive investigation, Daniel Tupý’s unresolved murder trial, the Tepláreň terrorist attack, the final Fico-attack conviction, the Vrútky school stabbing, the Devínska Nová Ves shooting and continuing murder proceedings. It separates final judgments and identified offenders from unresolved responsibility and investigative failure.
These files distinguish final convictions from identified offenders, unknown motives and a separately reviewed police response.

Read the sourced case file →Slovakia’s five files have different legal endpoints. The 2024 Fico attack ended in a final terrorism conviction. The Vrútky school attack has an identified perpetrator who died during a police response later found lawful; motive remained unknown. The 2010 mass shooting has an identified perpetrator who died at the scene; the motive remained unknown and no trial occurred. The Kuciak and Kušnírová case includes three final participant sentences, while alleged commissioning responsibility remained before a third trial.
The Specialized Criminal Court convicted Juraj Cintula of a terrorist attack, and the Supreme Court upheld his 21-year sentence in April 2026.
The attacker died during the police response, criminal proceedings against him stopped, and an inspection found that officers acted lawfully.
Police established the gunman’s identity and the sequence of the attack. “Resolved offender” does not mean the motive was discovered or that a court entered a conviction.
Final sentences establish roles for three participants, but they do not decide pending allegations against people accused of ordering the murders.
The 2024 file distinguishes the defendant’s stated intent from the courts’ terrorism finding and does not extend criminal responsibility to political opponents. The 2010 file preserves the 14/15 injury-count discrepancy and does not convert early motive theories into findings. The 2018 file labels testimony, accusations and annulled verdicts.

Juraj Cintula’s 21-year terrorism sentence became final when the Supreme Court rejected his appeal on 29 April 2026.
The offender was identified and died at the scene. Police closed the investigation in 2011 without establishing a motive, so the archive uses the limited label “resolved offender.”
Three participants have final prison sentences, but the question of who commissioned the murders was still before a third trial in September 2026.
Miroslav Marček and Tomáš Szabó are serving 25-year terms, while intermediary Zoltán Andruskó received 15 years.
In May 2025, the Slovak Supreme Court annulled the challenged verdict and returned the case to a different panel for a new trial.
