María Marta García Belsunce was found dead in the bathtub of her home in a gated community outside Buenos Aires. Her death was first attributed to an accident, but a later autopsy showed that she had been shot multiple times. The early handling of the scene became a central controversy.

Investigation

The case produced years of conflicting theories and several trials. Her husband, Carlos Carrascosa, was convicted and later acquitted. Attention eventually returned to neighbor Nicolás Pachelo, who was tried in 2022 and initially acquitted of the murder.

Legal status and legacy

In March 2024, an appeals court reversed Pachelo's acquittal and sentenced him to life imprisonment for the murder. Because the case has a judicially identified perpetrator, it is listed here as solved, while noting its unusually long and contested legal history.
