Solved / adjudicated

All four files rely on criminal judgments. The archive states cross-border jurisdiction, sentence caps, acquittals and unresolved motive separately.

Unsolved cases

One unresolved case has passed the sourcing threshold; its failed prosecution is documented without reviving discredited accusations.

How this archive classifies the cases

“Solved / adjudicated” means a criminal judgment resolved the principal charged conduct. It does not erase acquittals, transform civil liability into criminal guilt or conceal a statutory sentence cap.

Why is Matapalo a cross-border prosecution?

Salmerón was arrested in Nicaragua. Its constitution barred extradition of a national, so Nicaragua prosecuted conduct committed in Costa Rica.

Why distinguish 183 years from 30?

The individual terms totaled 183 years and six months; Nicaragua’s legal maximum meant thirty years were executable.

Why symbolic artwork?

The national colors, landscapes, memorial lights and court records are editorial. They do not portray people, crime scenes or evidence as documentary imagery.
